room ventilation

Why care for proper ventilation and how?

Ventilation is the process of bartering the stale indoor air of a building, or the room and replacing it with natural fresh air.

Proper ventilation is utmost essential for our respiratory system our health and the smooth process of breathing the air.

We can categorize ventilation in the two different types, first is the Natural ventilation process and Mechanical ventilation techniques. Apart from these two types, the mixed ventilation techniques.

Natural ventilation is a system where air is supplied and removed through an indoor environment by natural means of the air movement. This can be exemplified as the breeze or the wind which are governed by the temperatures and the climate conditions like humidity difference. Other examples of providing the same cane be size and the place of the windows, doors, roof ventilators and skylights etc.

Mechanical ventilation is the process of circulating the air through the air ducts and fans. Generally mechanical ventilation consists of two separately ducted networks: one for air supply and another for the air extraction. It is overtly much more flexible than the natural one, since it take away contaminants directly at source and maintain the healthy environment. The process is extracting the air from the source and releasing it the desired location. Further elaborating, it also works on the pressure difference between spaces. Pressurization of a room can be maintained when the air supply rate is the same as the extraction rate. Air supply rate and extraction rate can be controlled by a mechanical ventilation system.

To further sub categorize there are four different methods to provide the ventilation

  • Displacement
  • Under-floor air distribution
  • Personalized
  • Demand control ventilation.

The pre Covid and post Covid techniques have been advanced in an exponential way as health and fresh air is on the TOP of the list according to all the governing bodies like ASHRAE/CIBSE/GRIHA/USGBC/IWBI/IAQA and many. Nowadays intelligent building are installing in demand control ventilation system, which definitely is the need for hour for our healthy future. It adjusts the outdoor fresh air supply rate automatically based on the number of occupants inside a room. Since the indoor air contaminants are mainly from occupants and the surrounding environment, with fewer occupants in the room the ventilation needed dilute those contaminants is reduced.
