Sleep is the form of payback towards the fatigue & we certainly have to repay this towards the proper functioning of our body and the brain.
In today’s world, the nights are days and the days are nights for many of us.
We are exposed under one type of Static / dynamic LED (which have the high frequency and short wavelength- a blue light) lighting for hours together in our respective offices expecting maximum efficiency & an appropriate behaviour.
While selecting the lights for our offices and homes, a little attention has been given to the understanding on ipRGC which are particularly sensitive to the absorption of short-wavelength (blue) visible light and communicate information directly to SUPRACHIASMATIC Nucleus that forms our biological clock mainly responsible for our CIRCADIAN RHYTHM.
(Humans receiving high CS during the entire workday exhibited reduced depression and better sleep quality compared to those receiving low CS.)
Now-a-days we are being subjected with a placebo known as Human Centric Vision Lighting (HCVL). Many organizations & consultants are misusing HCVL as a tool for selling their inappropriate solutions.
According to me, it must be endorsed or backed up by concerned physiologist or neurologist as the term is self-explicit – “HUMAN CENTRIC”
Poor lighting sources, farcical lighting designs & unacceptable interiors – A damaging effect
For example:
• Retinal damage
• The brain fatigue
• Migraine
• Behavioral issue.
Lighting for the deliverance & how can we achieve this in our respective offices, hospitals & residences?
• Circadian Rhythm- By an appropriate use of lighting controls, tunable white light blending with red and blue lights to induce replica of the dawn, day & dusk timelines.
• Combination of appropriate forms of LEDs.
• Avoiding the direct view of light sources.
• Incorporating a lighting design to reduce the number of lights in a pragmatic manner.
