mood lighting

Being the part of this cosmic universe we are surrounded by energies. The prime source of energy is LIGHT. This is followed by the colours which plays the utmost vital role on our health, wellbeing, and mood.
This means that the specific parameters of light or the colours impacts our way of thinking, response and reactions. Thus, the spectrum of light affects the entire feelings of a human being. The presence of the millions of the photoreceptor, The Cones in the fovea of eyes is the main source of detection of the colours, which sends the signals though the optic nerves to the neurons and visual cortex of our brain. Most of the animals and insects does not have this photoreceptor in their eyes. The spectral sensitivity of human being is at 555nm (CIE)

One of the earliest written documents from the Bronze Age (ca 1100-1700 BC), the Rig Veda is a series of hymns or prayers to the Light of God to awaken our consciousness. Highlighting this concept is a beautiful verse from the Chandogya Upanishad (3.13.7f): “The light that shines beyond the heavens, upon the backs of all, upon the backs of everything”— that is the same as the light that is here within the person.

Have you ever wondered that the fabrics does not have that impact on our mood but the light with the same colour?

Let’s consider a scenario that in one room, a red colour fabric is hung on the walls all around in the presence of normal white or warm light and in the second room we switch on RED light on the white walls, now imagine or experience the effect of the colour on your mood? Overtly, the second room (with the red colour light) will have a greater impact on the mood.

This phenomenon is because of the intensity of light, presence of light carrying photons, electromagnetic waves.

The light enters through our eyes hits the retina which has cones as photoreceptors. The limbic part of the brain is triggered along with the relevant neurotransmitters. The likings and disliking, acceptable or rejection of the colour are subjective for every individuals. Thus there is no thumb rule of liking or disliking, yet there are these factors depending upon our molecular mechanism of eyes and brain to trigger our mood with the presence of different forms and colours of light.
